Another year disappeared

Where the time goes, I do not know. Retirement turns out to be the busiest time of my life. Either that, or my clock cycles no longer run in sync with the rest of the planet. I start Monday morning at 0700, sit down, and it is Friday evening. I woke up on New Year’s Day and now it is almost Xmas.

I did post a few things on my German website, so it was not all quiet. I achieved a lot more than is visible, mostly Claude-assisted builds. I use it to the full, and I keep most of it out of view, because not everything is made for public use. Very few people look at websites nowadays anyway, so this is one of those things you do for yourself.

One of my latest projects is something I wanted to do for a long time. I have a small CNC router for PCB making and other small jobs. Its web interface is OK, but not easy to use while standing at the machine. In my long journey of collecting parts as backups or for now abandoned projects, I had picked up a touchscreen with a rotary encoder. It cried out to be a CNC pendant, so that is what I built last week. Claude burned a few thousand tokens, I melted some plastic and solder, and lo and behold, it works better than anything commercial or Ali-supplied. Best of all, it is mine to play with, change and improve. And I kept more than 25 euro of parts out of landfill.

of course it needs a Pi to run CNCjs an additional safety switch for the router and some other magic.
